Faculty for Chemistry and Pharmacy LMU Munich - Commemoration of the 100th birthday of Hans Konrad Leipelt

Commemoration of the 100th birthday of Hans Konrad Leipelt

Jul 16, 2021

This year, Hans Konrad Leipelt, who was born on July 18, 1921, would have turned one hundred years old. The Faculty for Chemistry and Pharmacy of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München would like to honor its former chemistry student, especially for his courage.

Hans Leipelt, who was considered a "half-Jew", grew up mainly in Hamburg and studied at the Chemistry Institute in Munich under Prof. Heinrich Wieland. After the execution of the Scholl siblings and Christoph Probst, he continued their resistance activities in Munich and Hamburg. In October, 1943, Hans Leipelt was arrested along with other like-minded individuals and was executed on January 29, 1945, by guilllotine, in Munich's Stadelheim prison.

Due to the long-lasting pandemic, an in-person commemoration was not held. The Faculty, therefore, cordially invites you to learn about the life and work of this exceptionally courageous student in a tree-part presentation created and recorded on the occasion of this year's Hans Leipelt commemoration. The presentation may be found at LMUCast:

We sincerely thank the presenter, Ms. Angela Bottin, Hamburg, for the impressive, in-depth commemoration which was recorded at the Gedenkstätte der Weiße Rose Stiftung e.V. at the University's main building at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz, in the Hans-Leipelt-Foyer and in the Leipelt-Seminar Room of the Faculty for Chemistry and Pharmacy in Munich Großhadern.
